The National Association of Baseball Players was founded in 1858. The Cincinnati Red Stockings became the first professional team in 1869. It recruited the best players around the country and went undefeated the first year. The game continued to grow and is now a very popular game in America.
The major league season starts in May and finishes in October. Games are played about 5 times a week for a total of 162 games. In addition to the major league, there are minor leagues, little leagues and youth leagues.
